Education
Adenuga, the son of a tobacco merchant, grew up in Ibadan and attended the Ibadan City Academy for his O-Levels before transferring to King’s College in Lagos for his higher school diploma, where he established a pop band that eventually disbanded.
Acting Career
In 1983, Adenuga published the celluloid film Papa Ajasco, which was modeled on the main character in Ikebe Super and was launched before the growth of the film industry. In an industry driven by Yoruba productions, Papa Ajasco made history as the first English comedy.
In 1995, a film adaptation of Binta was released, renamed Binta My Daughter. A year later, the Nigerian television sitcom Papa Ajasco (previously The Ajasco Family) premiered to acclaim. The old characters returned in this small-screen adaptation, as well as a new character named Pa James, who was created to avoid insulting Muslims. (“We didn’t want [a muslim] who did things like Pa Jimoh by himself.”)
